A Street-lamp

A Street-lamp

The street-light-
The only one
Shining in the night,
Illuminating just a little
When the good old Moon isn't shining by,
Throwing away its beams of rays
For the tired soul who might trudge along the deserted way
When the night is long and dark
And the lamp is the only one keeping a vigil
over the tedious path
until the traveller reaches the rock of his home
And leans on the pillow
Burdened by his head.

The Gospel of Mary page 16 Ignorance questions Soul

Ignorance Questions Soul

From Gospel of Mary
Page 16

Ignorance: "Where do you think you are going?"
you who are dominated by wicked inclinations?
What are you thinking?
How can you possibly want to leave me?
Indeed you have no discrimination at all.
and you are clearly out of your mind."

The soul answered :
"Why do you judge me,
as i have not passed judgement on you?
I have been oppressed,
but I myself do not oppress.
I have not been recognized,
but I myself recognize that all things
which are composed shall be decomposed,
on earth and in heaven;
not only earthly structures,
but also the things of the psyche.
You may think you are eternal,
but you are not."
On hearing this, Ignorance was slain.

Desire speaking to Soul

And Desire said,
"I did not see you descend,
but I see you now 'ascending'.
Why do you pretend to ascend,
Why do you lie, when I know you are mine?"

And the soul replied,
"I saw you, but you did not recognize me.
Nor did you see me,
because your power urged me to give you a body
which you thought was yours.
I served you as a garment
and you never saw it was me.
You never felt me,
and know that I have reclaimed myself,
You are without the body I gave you,
and you cannot recognize me "

And when this was said,
,the soul left, rejoicing greatly

A Certain Winter

That winter,  my homestead felt a certain warmth,
as a pair of bulbuls chose to grace it
in the small cozy nook they grabbed
in the dense overgrowth
of a neglected but a strong survivalist plant
that I planted and then forgot,
in the sunny corner of the verandah.
But I felt glad , they didn't let me forget
the plant and the sun who nurtured it,
Because as soon as they came, they got frantically on the job
of building a delicate shed for their tiny ones to come..
So vulnerable they could be, so close to a human world !
But a bird knows whom to trust !
They took me aside and sang their secret into my ear,
and I said, "God bless you my dear !"
I would then spend hours in the sultry afternoons, watching them come and go, till my heart got drunk and they stole my mundane worries to replace them with their little kind concerns
of day to day.
Between each little leaf and a twig, put neatly with love in place, they would find a little break to make love and rest,
and then once again they would be at it with zest.
There were these little lessons I learnt from them in those passing
winter days.

Your World O God

Your World O God

I am a part of this world you created with your own hands O God .I saw your children drink tears to quench their thirst
and when hungry, I hear their silent moans
as they go without their share of morsel and sleep without a groan.

I saw magical changes in the face of the humans.
I saw lust shed its greed and take on the ascetic vow,
and I saw lifelong quest for truth
discarded all of a sudden
and drowned in the mire of lust.
I have seen the best of minds succumb to despair
and saw the triumph of  love  as well as  its doom .
A gardener is believed to be the guardian of the soil
but in your garden of Eden the buds are killed in infancy
I have seen the holy waters of the Ganga
now desecrated by sin
and debauchery masquerading , hiding behind a screen of smoke.
And I have seen the holy Ganga sad,
 and still straining
to cleanse humanity of age-long sorrows and life-long suffering
till she has nothing left for them, not even tears.
You, the creator of all, your ways of love defy the human understanding and we fail to see the Law that rules over it all.
My deep bow to you O God !
